Welcome to the 2024 NPLI National Training

This year’s training takes us to Hartford, Connecticut! We’ll be kicking off our training with a reception on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 6 pm. Our training will begin on August 8 and will continue until August 11.

As we gather in Hartford we celebrate the power of community and the enduring spirit of parent leadership. After years of adapting to unprecedented challenges, we stand together, more resilient and committed than ever, to ensure that every parent’s voice contributes to shaping a brighter future for our children.

The Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) remains a beacon of democracy, guiding parents from caring individuals to influential leaders. In a world where the need for equity and inclusion is paramount, PLTI champions the belief that when parents understand the tools of democracy, they will engage in civic life with vigor and purpose.

This year, we extend a warm invitation to communities both familiar and new to the PLTI journey. Whether PLTI has been a part of your community for years or you are just beginning to explore its potential, your insights and experiences are vital to our collective learning.

We are excited to convene in Hartford, a city known for its rich history and vibrant community. We look forward to your contribution of experience, skills, and lessons learned as we create a learning community dedicated to the principles of parent leadership.

People from different racial, cultural, gender identity, generational, and socioeconomic backgrounds heard, felt, and connected with the heartbeat of democracy at last year’s NPLI National Training, which was held in person at the YWCA in Columbus, Ohio, after two years of being online. Learners from White Earth Nation, California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Ohio, Tennessee, and Ohio attended the training. A welcoming environment made room for strong and, at times, challenging conversations about inclusive democracy. Our diverse team of National Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) Facilitators and Children’s Leadership Training Institute (CLTI) Teachers engaged and built the skills of sixty learners so they could implement this family civics initiative in their communities.

We also took a break to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our founding site, Connecticut PLTI. In 1992, parents and the Connecticut Commission on Children, now called the Connecticut General Assembly’s Commission on Women, Children, and Seniors, worked together to make this parent leadership and democracy curriculum (CWCS). NPLI is delighted that our ongoing partnership with CWCS to propagate this family civics curriculum has led to thousands of PLTI and CLTI graduates from communities worldwide. We respect and value these family leaders’ work to make their families, schools, and communities better places for people of all backgrounds and for a healthy democracy.
