On March 31, the National Parent Leadership Institute hosted Staying Whole and United: A Love Letter and Support Guide for Families Navigating Harmful Immigration Raids and Policies, a virtual gathering for PLTI graduates across the country.
The session came in response to concerns shared by PLTI graduates about the toll immigration raids and policies are taking on the mental health and well-being of families and parent leaders.
At the center of the conversation was Staying Whole and United: A Love Letter and Support Guide for Families Navigating Harmful Immigration Raids and Policies, a community-created resource developed with and for immigrant families and shared with NPLI through our partner, the United Parent Leaders Action Network (UPLAN). The guide offers resources and ideas for caring for your own well-being, supporting children, preparing for difficult situations, and staying connected to culture and community.
Throughout the session, participants reflected on stress, joy, resistance, community care, and ways to support themselves and their families during difficult times. Just as importantly, the gathering gave graduates space to connect with one another and feel heard.
“I leave feeling heard and understood,” one participant shared.
Another reflected, “It’s encouraging to feel a sense of community and know that we are all in this together.”
NPLI looks forward to continuing to share the guide and related resources with PLTI sites interested in creating similar spaces for connection, reflection, and community support.
