NPLI Co-Directors Donna Thompson-Bennett and Patti Keckeisen were honored to be invited back to the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools Ella Baker Child Policy Institute this summer to be onto leadership team of trainers who prepare college students and recent graduates to deliver the model Integrated Reading Curriculum and to make learning fun for children this summer at the CDF Freedom Schools.
NPLI’s role is, in part, was facilitate a deeper understanding for participants on the dynamics of family engagement and how to be collaborators with parents. The impact of the workshop speaks for itself, here are a few insights from participants:“The entire session was meaningful and intentional. I am able to take home several ideas that I can share with our Freedom School Families and transition to my regular job.”“What I like best about this session were the Values of Parent & Family Leadership and Engagement.”“It(my work) will be even more inclusive of all parents and allow me to use more creative ways to engage parents.”
